lionversusbear asked: have yourself a merry little christmas, and may all your days be merry and bright! you're the cat's meow.

Hey, same to you, Elio. You’re the bee’s knees, the cat’s meow, AND the snowman’s scarf.

Hope you had a good Christmas, and enjoy your Internet hiatus (which may have already begun which means you might not see this, but I hope you enjoy it all the same!)

digitalcable asked: Hey Ardie! I hope you're doing well. I don't know if you take request for covers but you should consider covering modern leper by frightened rabbit.

Hey Caleb,

I’m good, man! Hope everything’s good with you, too.

I will most certainly consider it. I really like that song! If I can at least vaguely pull it off, expect a cover in the near future.

Thanks!

Anonymous asked: I'm really confused here sorry but I thought that you'd made that up?

Who really knows? They’re just words that already existed put into a particular order by someone. And I am mysterious and stuff.

(But, no, yes, I made it up. But if you want to use it: cite Mae Kaufman. I hope that’s clearer! Here is the key bit once more just in case I’ve confused things further by rambling: cite Mae Kaufman.)

Anonymous asked: If I want to post the quote that you have written on the 'Out of Here' album, do I cite it you or what you have cited it as on the cover? I just really like the quote and want to share it with people.

Wow! That’s so cool.

I think it makes sense to cite Mae Kaufman and The Trouble With Glory. That’s what I did. And so if that’s the way I chose to treat that particular set of words, and if that’s the way they’re presented, I feel like it makes sense for someone else who finds them to do the same. Does that make sense?

It’s really up to you. But she does deserve it. Good old Mae.

lionversusbear asked: in nyc, in williamsburg (make sure you get off the wrong stop, because turned left and wound up in the hasidic jewish ghetto in the middle of a block party, it was kinda out of place) so in williamsburg there's this place called the 'alligator lounge' where they give you a free pizza for every beer you buy. that's it. one beer, one pizza. and it's good pizza. and it's not watered down american beer either. it's artisanal and finely crafted.

Finely crafted, you say? Excellent beer to pizza ratio, you say? Alligators, you say? I’M THERE. Thanks!

I don’t know what I’m doing or why I’m writing this post but it seems like it’s too late and I’ve given in to the idea that I reside on the internet now. So I’m trying to write a song and I keep getting distracted and you can help with that if you like.

Anonymous asked: You should cover One Direction. :D

I don’t really know any of their songs, and I feel like my cover would probably be kind of half-hearted and unconvincing because of that, y’know?

I’m making the assumption that they’re probably legitimately good singers who can hit high notes and stuff, this assumption I just made puts me off.

Plus I just looked at the lyrics to one of their songs and they use the word ‘Baby’ as a pet name. There’s no way I could pull off the word ‘Baby’ as a pet name and still make it to the end of the cover.

Anonymous asked: are you planning to go see 'the beatles: the lost concert' film?

I didn’t know that was a thing. But NOW I am. If you’re working on the promotion of the film, Anonymous - well done. Well done.

Anonymous asked: Where does the quote on Out of Here come from? I can't find anything about Mae Kaufman or The Trouble With Glory anywhere on the interwebs.

That. That is a good question. I hadn’t thought far enough ahead about whether I might actually get asked by people, but it’s a fake quote. I mean it’s real (obviously) because you can read it, but there is no The Trouble With Glory or Mae Kaufman (well, there might be, but I made this one up). So I wrote it. I had thought for a while about what I’d want to use as album art, and I’m not any good at drawing or painting or photography or anything visually artistic like that, but I figured that I seem to be pretending I can do the words at the moment, so I thought that might be the answer. I thought about some of the stuff that had been written about in the songs and did a weird backwards thing where I wrote a fake quote as though the songs had been influenced by this passage as opposed to the other way around. But then when I was writing one of the songs that ended up being a bonus track a further weird thing happened where the fake quote ended up influencing it. To summarise, it was weird.

mimsie asked: Hello, hello! I just wanted to check with you that it's ok to use one of your songs as background for future video(s)? Loving the EP, by the way :)

Hey. Yeah, that’s absolutely fine. Go for it. I have a policy that anyone can go ahead and use any of the silly songs I’ve written for this sort of thing any time they feel like it. And thank you!

alexvosper asked: what kind of person shoots a music video, but cant find time to edit it yet because of their final major project... and is really really sorry? :s

The kind of person who did an UNBELIEVABLY EXCELLENT job with her other one and who I know is super super busy and who has no need to be sorry.

Pluuuuus, I’m making another ridiculously swift visit to London next Saturday (probably even swifter than the last one), but if there’s any let-up in project work and you’re about then let me know!

Anonymous asked: are you working on another novel atm?

I am, yeah. Well. Sort of. I’ve made a decent start at it and have the basic plot figured out, but at the moment I seem to be concentrating more on music stuff in terms of projects and things. I’m working 9-5 nowadays and so I haven’t found the time to get much writing done as well as music things, but I’m getting there with what I’m currently working on music-wise and so hopefully I can get back to writing soon.

Anonymous asked: who designed the cover for your book?

That was designed in-house by the publishers, but I don’t know who the actual designer was. They just sent it to me when it was done. But it’s actually quite similar to the cover I originally had on the book when I self-published it before I got the publishing deal. I went to Roath Park lake one evening after it had been snowing and took a weird blurry photo of a bench to go on the cover (because there’s this bench which is a kind of recurring theme in the book), so the publishers MAY have got the idea to focus on the bench from that, but I don’t know for certain, sorry!
